College Radio Christmas Eve

about

A song commemorating a very somber Christmas eve many (MANY) years ago when late one night I discovered a faint college radio station playing alternative and modern rock Christmas and holiday songs. I instantly didn't feel so alone.

lyrics

That Christmas eve so very long ago
There was rain, but no sign of snow
A house so dark and empty, silence all around
Up in the attic, the only light was found

A small Christmas tree, next too a receiver
A college station making a believer
Songs and stories from Christmas round the world
Not feeling so alone as it unfurled

The song said it’s the saddest time of year
Resonating strongly, on a day so austere
A Ze Christmas record, Ghosts of Christmas past
Yuletunes, the Reindeer Room, built to last

Hearing a song about how things fall apart
The Waitresses, or George Michael, from the start
Twi-light in Tokyo, Merry Christmas Will Do
She won’t be home for Christmas, neither will you

The song said it’s the saddest time of year
Resonating strongly, on a day so austere
A Ze Christmas record, Ghosts of Christmas past
Yuletunes, the Reindeer Room, built to last
